Hi Guys,

I used to BMX all my childhood, now what seems to be the fastest growing sport ever! has gripped me and all my friends.

Im looking for a great deal in JHB/Fourways and some advice on which bike is a good buy.

My friend picked up a 2011 GT Avalanche 2.0, which looks like a great bike.

The type of riding im gonna be doing.... i have no clue :D probably mostly trails and random exploring :D

Welcome to the Hub and your new addiction.

Don't forget your other kit: Helmet (important and required by law); pomp; spare tubes; cycling kit; etc

You need to factor these in as it will either push up your budget or dumb-down your purchase. Besides the helmet, you can get everything cheap (eg Mr Price sports for your tops) and then replace as need be.

The general view on Avalanche is that more riders start on them than any other bike and they will all tell you that its not about the bike, its about you.

Thanks for the Tips! i have about R8k to spend on just the bike ;)

Ive been scouring the Net for good 2nd hand deals and done all sorts of research, it can get expensive quickly! and not to mention very technical :o

These two seem like fairly good deals.

I also read that After christmas is one of the best times to buy from stores...

What do you mean different purposes ?

would they suit a beginner rider that wants to do trails and downhill general mountain biking and handle basic jumps ?

Im just looking for a good deal that wont lose too much value if i upgrade :D

Thanks for the help.

No worries. You showed a hardtail and a dual susser.

Some downhill and a few jumps? Look for a dual susser with an AM lean. That Trance will be your ticket

I don't know enough to comment except that I notice one is a large and the other two are medium.

You need to look at the size too. Being 6ft myself, I ride a large, but your legs might be shorter than mine?

Nope. Power to weight ratio is what works in this sport. You have some good makings.

At risk of going horribly off topic, how do those two numbers demonstrate power? At 6'2" and 77kg I must also be a pro! ha ha

6 inches?!? For a woman? Damn... that is big! ;)

No if it was inches I would be very very small. But yes, 6 feet (1.83m) is taller than you average women. But BIG ? now that is a whole new concept :)

EDIT; But dare I mention that 6 inches for a man is big.
