Hi Joburg

Anyone training for Full Ironman PE 2012 who would be keen to do a group ride/swim/run every now and again?

I live in Linden, but can meet up wherever.

Also...I've braved the murky waters of the Emmarentia Dam and survived to tell the tale...but that was 3 years ago...any ideas about nasties festering in that particular pond?

I've seen lots of people swimming in Emmarentia Dam, but I ran past there yesterday and this morning again, and there are LOTS of nasties, floating against the wall.

I live in Milpark, but my training is erratic at best (5am / 8pm). I've got a 2 hour run on Sunday morning (around 23 -24km) if you are interested.

5am and 6/7pm are my training times as well. especially when i have to do rides in the week - 5am is good for a two hour pre-work ride in the week.

can't do this weekend (i'll be away) but let's keep in touch.

Thanks - will definitely consider joining a club for 2013's. I'm on a relatively okay programme at the moment - I work strange hours and find it quite difficult to adjust my hours accordingly but getting into the swing of it now.

Please send me club details?

Any other open water options in Joburg? Heia Safari Ranch?

Monday morning a small group is doing some riding and running. We do laps of 30km's so some do 60km and some 90km. THen we run 13km's.

Take the beyers naude out and turn left at the carnivore restaurant sign (just before the N14). Then turn right at the bottom. Riverside Country lodge 200m up.

We start at 05h30. Should be easy to spot us. When through the gate we park on the right. There are fast and slow guys. Normally we stick together for the first lap or 2. Anybody welcome

I've heard about this "Hippo"...mmm...and the crocs...also, the lions feeding off the pond scum. Anything else I should be concerned about?

Hey guys. Just to correct our buddy Garfield, it's Riverstone Lodge. There is no Riverside lodge. The run is a bugger and we are getting tired of the route. Stupid hippo else we would be swimming there. There is another option called Leisure Lakes, the Irene Triathlon guys seem to use it - we are yet to try it though. Here's a map to the lake: 398382_160778200695256_160132887426454_215227_2104661941_n.jpg

Dave, I think we are going to do one more session this weekend. Garfield will arrange, possibly on Sunday morning. Hopefully we can get some cloud cover, it was just a bit too hot yesterday..

There is a Hippo in the dam at Heia

Has anyone actually spoken to the people at Heia and confirmed this? Cause I swam in a race there October and November. No hippo. I have heard that the hippo is actually in the dam at Kloofzicht. This was a confirmed spotting at a Christmas lunch there early December. Just asking because the Dam is the perfect place for swimming.

Best is to phone Heia Safari and find out

Doea anyone have a good ironman training program?

I would suggest the following:-

Do the 70.3 in East Londen

In Feb do the Prestige Ultra 70.3

In March do the Midmar 70.3

These are all about a month from each other.

Then in the middle (in between these events) somewhere you will need to do a 180km bike ride and a marathon at some stage.

Should get you over the line.
