I see that Game has the Garmin Nuvi 200 on sale for R 2 399.00 and was considering buying it. Don?t need it for Cape Town but will be in JHB every  4 - 6 weeks in next year.  Any advice on this product will be appreciated.

I've got the garmin c550 and am very happy with it. I've also got the nokia 6110 navigator cellphone (it has a built in GPS)  unfortunately I only can compare the 2.

the garmin is much better in the calculation of routes than the nokia, but I allways carry my cell with me, so the I have the nokia allways with, even though it is not as good

Most of the functionality of the garmin, I dont use (bluetooth, mp3 player, etc) but the one thing that is worthwhile is to make sure that you buy one with the speedtrap database. that will quickly save you the money you pay for the extra functionality. I used the garmin recently in namibia, and it has all the maps (and restaurants) but the nokia did not have it

I have recently heard the tomtom gps adverts and it states you can get daily updates.

For the extra R100, the Garmin is by far the better option. A colleague at work has a tomtom which took him the wrong way down a one-way.

wrt the speedtrap database, you can download it from garmin SA's website and other customised waypoints.

Yeah, agree grey owl, you cant go wrong with the Garmin.

I am a Garmin freak, I have 4 of em and I have just bought another for the wife the "STREETPILOT C510" - their mapping is superb and I use mine every day.Its just so convenient.

I just love their little ditti - "Without us (Garmin) you will be lost".Big%20smile

mdk555, I've recently bought the Nuvi 200. Brilliant piece of kit, really plug and play. Only thing it does not have as standard anymore is the memorycard, Usb data download cable and the "speedtrap database" which you must download, and for that you need the memory card and USB cable.

Otherwise, good buy.
