Carbon sole or not?

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I am thinking of buying a new pair of road shoes.

Currently have pair with Nylon /Fibreglass sole.

Is Carbon really better, how much energy is really lost due to flex, I have googled but can not really find any specific data where it shoes that carbon is better.

Anyone on the hub knows where to get some data or advice.

I went from a shoe like yours to a carbon sole, I did feel a difference although I am sure it is not a huge gain except weight saving

I went from a cheapie plastic shoe to sidi dragon 2's (for mtb and road) and the difference was huge.

Carbon without doubt. It's much more comfortable as you don't get the pedals digging into your soles - especially on long rides...

I went from Olympics to a pair of Sidi Ergo's and definitely a huge improvement especially on longer rides. Much more stiffness and better power transfer. No more numbness that I have noticed that I had with my Olympics on long rides.
