I've done a bit of research myself on 29ers and considering the price you are paying, I think you are getting a good buy. Most 29ers in the R8 k bracket are equiped with Altus/Acera. The Silverback has Deore 10speed.

Silverback are known for their good quality at good prices. I would buy it if I was you.

As the others above, I am a Momsen fan as they are also good value for money and they are proudly South African.

Titan Elite 29'er, mix 10spd XT/Deore and Suntour XCR fork for R8000.

Or you can save just that little more and buy a Vida 2 for around R11.5k - XT / SLX drive train, ZTR Crest rims on Shimano hubs, Rockshox Recon Gold...

yep - also an option. But then I could save a little more and get a 'enter model name here' for 'enter original budget + 20% here'.

But I hear you load and clear. The Vida 2 is on my radar - as well as the Scott Scale Team. Both just under R12k

Weight How much does this bike weigh? It’s a common question, and rightly so. But the truth is, there are no industry standards for claiming bike weights—and this leads to a lot of misinformation. Variances exist based on size, frame material, finish and hardware. And as bikes get lighter, these differences become more critical. At Giant, we believe the only way to truly know the weight of any particular bike is to find out for yourself at your local retailer.

I am the only one that finds Giant's standard disclaimer on weight irritating. I mean flip it is extremely relevant - if you so worried about apples and aplles just be very clear about the spec and size frame the quoted weight is based on... Just makes it that much harder to do your research your pre-bike shop visit.

well ive just done about 2/3 months worth of looking around and irritating the LBS for the best deal etc. i eventually went for the Silverback vida 2, Just got it yesterday and havent got her dirty yet, but from what little i have ridden of her, damn she is light and purrrrdy. i got her for 9.5k after i traded in my 26'er HT ox-wagon ( Scott Aspect 30 ) . Big up is that on the vida 2 u getting a decent set of wheels, Stans Crest.

I got the XL and weigh'd it, 12.3kg. and i recon u can get pretty close to the 12kg mark by just changing the it to tubeless later on. i was also looking at the Scott Scale Elite @ 14k for the bike, the silverback worked out at a better price.

oh and btw, the geometry on the silverback vida and scott scales are almost identical!

will post again after this weekend on how she rides in the rough
