Westcoast Warmwater Weekend complaint, but really event prices in general.

For the Cape Town guys.

Did you guys see this event. http://www.electricink.co.za/warmwater-weekend

Looks like a great event, but im sorry, first off, its two weeks before Xterra, so the date / timing is wrong.

But what I really have a problem with, is the costing / price.

You add up the costs of all the events you enter, and you end up paying a small fortune.

The entry is fine if you are racing. What is expensive is for the spectators. R350 vs R550. Meaning the race costs R200?

Also, food seems to be included?

Couldn't agree with you more. I also looked at it and it looks like a FANTASTIC event which I would like to take part in until I read how much it will set me back.

When I consider how much cash have put into 70.3 next weekend and Sani2c in May, I just cant bring myself to enter it. Also Xterra is +-R450 just for a one day event. That excludes the drive out there and nutrition etc. And of course there are tons of one day races which I will no doubt do during the year which all adds up.

Bottom line is that to take part in events costs money. Its the sad reality but at the end of the dyay it costs money to run these events.

I do agree with you though that the price for the warm water weekend is ridiculous.

GWWW is a great event and totally worth the bucks. I did the event last year and is was great! Your fee includes entry into the park, lunch after the event and an awards dinner with a 3 course meal!

The food and entry alone would cost R300 bucks so i dont agree that it is ridiculous.

Paul at Electric Ink runs a great event and I truely believe keeps costs to a minimum as the race is about promotion not profit!

It is more costly than for example the Global 11 which is shorter and in blouberg with no added extras. These events cost a lot to run and maintain and rising costs are the reality of today.

How much does it cost to take your partner to a nice dinner, sundowner or drinks after and maybe a movie? that would cost closer to R1000! (by nice dinner I dont mean take away, cheap pizzaria or spur). Now compare that to a nice full day in a beautiful part of the country with a great event?

It's not cheap heating up the lagoon!

I was considering it, but would rather do it with a bunch of mates and have a real jol. oh and the fact that zero training has been happening was an issue. it seems to have great additions, but you don't really get an option. It's intended to be an all-in weekend.
