Some useful websites for comparison:

http://www.classicre...hrome_super.htm

http://en.wikipedia...._Colnago_frames

Also try emailing the serial number to the Colnago factory - they might be able to dig something out of their archives!

Wow Calnago has such an awesome history - I didn't realise there were still manufacturers going strong that started from the very early days of bi-cyles .

All the bike manufacturers I grew up with must have started building bikes in the late 70's or early 80's....

Now I see the allure of a Calnago - a bike with true heritage.... and 'ol Eddy Merckx the legend , a bit of his gene's are probably in those frames

Hey chaps , one more thing I'm thinking of putting her up for sale - Whats a fair Price to ask?

Someone mentioned R3000/R2500 , there is a Retro Colnago Altain in the Classifieds for R5500 but it appears to have a newish group on it - is it a better bike though?

The fork belongs to a nag. But the frame isn't a nag.

Its been resprayed and the lugs are are not colnago lugs. They should be a bit more elaborate: often an embellished tip and mostly the club symbol in the lug. The underside of the BB should carry the biggest clues about the frame.

100%

That frame is not a colnago.

Also, check under the BB, a real colnago of that generation will have the clover-leaf cutout of the BB shell.

(ps, the cycle-art sticker should have been your first clue that it's not genuine.)

2 pretty knowledgeable Colnago guys verified it , guys that grew up with them - if you read the whole thread....

Anyway its a well established fact that not all the colnago frames from that era have the Clover leaf on the bottom of the BB.

And the butt joints match calnago frames from that era exactly.

oops sorry, on second thought, it may well be a calnago but it still isn't a colnago

So what exactly are you jokers basing this on?

Seeing we all esteem knowledge and wisdom not just heresay

That isn't the head tube lugs of the Thron and the rear drop outs will have Colnago stamped into it.

The rear dropouts should have campag or colnago stamped on them. The lugs on that frame are not from a colnago.

I did read the thread and look at your pictures.

Dunno who your knowledgeable guys are, but I also can make all sorts of claims.

Don't start with name calling.

nag BB's have either

the clover cut out

or

they have the word "colnago" engraved on the top of the shell on either side.

Also focus on the rear brake bridge. The square bush was also embossed with a clover.

Two things that must be mentioned about this bike; that point to the fact that this bike is definitely not older than estimation of 1986:

(1) the short 45deg rear dropouts

(2) the double bottle cage mountings.

Please oe's those that may not know much about this subject stop using google as your fountain of unverified knowledge.

Google says this is a head tube lugs of a Thron, so with your reasoning this guys Colnago is not a Colnago....

Yes thats the BB on a version of the Thron Super with no clover leaf cut-out , See here :

I am all for any help I can get and I appreciate the help you guys offer but it must be concrete and substantiated

What I have found a good few times in forums around the web is Colnagos are notoriously hard to verfify becuase their production techniques were at times all over the place and could change from week to week even on identical models
