C'mon, let me know!

Have you ever ridden the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour for charity? We're about to go to print with the next issue of Cycle Tour magazine and it's missing YOUR story!

I want to hear the real deal stuff. And I want to see the pics!

Hell, I once rode the Argus dressed in foam and orange velvet for charity. Sad thing is (actually, two sad things): first, I was pretty strong on the day, despite the ridiculously cumbersome outfit. Shows how I appreciate affirmation. Second: I have no pics.

Please do better than me!

Drop me a line - either here or at dominique@moonshinemedia.co.za and tell me about your charity ride: what made you do it? What did you wear? How much did you raise? Who did you do it for?

I'd love to include you in the mag.

But we're wrapping up this issue in a couple of days, so please, please, please give me a shout pretty pronto.

A bit late now don't you think? Anyway, I have not yet ridden for charity. One day when I am tired of being a racing snake I'll give it a go.

I rode for St Luke's hospice in 2010. With my wife's help I raised about 4 and a half grand. Some peeps donated a flat amount and others sponsored per kilometre. After a good race in VA I went round for another lap so the per kilometre guys had to cough up big style to the tune of 226 k's.

A crowd of guys were going to join me for round 2 but the wind has humming again that year and they all bailed. After catching my breath at the finish I cruised to the start by myself, just in time to catch the very last bunch tootling up the Eastern Boulevard onramp. The social lap was a new experience stopping at some of the water points and chatting to riders along the way. Good times.

A group of us from Port Elizabeth did the ARGUS last year for "Bobs for boots".Bob Skinstad did the ride as well but he battled somewhat ...hee hee.The money that was raised was to help give a pair of shoes to schoolchildren. We all wore bib shorts and jerseys especially designed for the ride.If my memory serves me correct,we raised around R20 000.

This year I have managed to arrange to ride for the Bumble Bee foundation . Their main beneficiary this year is Daniel Holgate who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy. The foundation, with the help of the Den Anker restaurant in the Waterfront Cape Town is hoping to get 200 cyclists, each raising at least R1500.Special BIB shorts and jerseys are being designed for the event.

Anyone looking to buy a raffle ticket from me for R50 is welcome to pm me.The main prize will be an IPad 2.
