Eish.

Aren't they just TOO awesome !?

I wouldn't know, I haven't ridden one yet. But all reports would indicate so.

Dammit.

Looks like it's pretty similar to the Santa Cruz Chameleon my friend's got? I think you've seen his. You bumped into us some time ago at Majik.

Yeah I remember ;) same idea - hardtail with geometry that can run up to 140mm fork - except it's steel, and cheaper than a chameleon. Buycycle has the frames on special for R5 800 at the moment... and I'm thinking my Commencal will make an excellent donor bike...

Just go for it boet. He loves his bike. Took him a while to get used to it, because the geometry is similar to his full suspension AM bike, but obviously without the plushness at the back. But now he's ripping. At Majik he's significantly quicker on the Chameleon vs the full suspension.

I reckon on this bike I'd either not miss the rear suspension, or in fact ride better, on most trails...

Contermans - will appreciate the lighter hardtail on the climbs

Jonkershoek - ditto, might miss the rear sus on the rocky bits

Meerendal - no brainer

Majik - ditto

Oak Valley - o my, imagine their groomed singletrack on this beast

the list goes on

I must just keep dreaming though, I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. Problem is though, I was itching for a long travel steel hardtail before I even bought the Commencal, and usually when I have an itch I EVENTUALLY scratch it

My Commencal really will make a good donor bike - with that coil adjustable travel Sektor up front and those burly AlexRim SupraBH rims with the 15mm through-axle...

Hmmm... difficult one. I wouldn't sell the Commencal. At Jonkers I'd prefer the FS above hardtail every time. So it's horses for courses. Rather build the hard tail up over time as you get some bucks. Then eventually you'll have 2 bikes to cover all bases.

Eventually. Right now the budget doesn't allow it anyways - in fact, even selling the Commencal frame to buy the Cotic will be tight. So for now I'm just dreaming. As always.

Remember though, I had a hardtail before the FS (and one less great than the Cotic), and Jonkers was a blast. It can be done - it's all down to line choice. And I kind of miss the simplicity of the hardtail.

Ha ha! Ja, all true. HT really makes you look for the right line! We actually become biking slobs when you have lots of travel at the back. You don't pick a line, you make a line.

I guess the only area where you will struggle with the Cotic, is through serious rock gardens, but then again how much of the trails we ride have miles and miles of rocks? Not much. So then, that's it. Get it.
