I am considering buying a new set of American classic 26'' wheelset. Can any one please give me some feedback on these wheels regarding their durability and maintenance? I am tired of sevicing my XT hubs all the time...

Between my wife and I we own 4 sets. Brilliant wheels. Weight is 1509g. I have only replaced the bearings in my wheels once. You can get the bearings in bulk via eBay and it costs you almost nothing. Very easy to pop them out and replace them yourself. That is when you need to, which I haven't for years. I also can't recall ever having to take them to get buckles removed...

Great wheelset. I've got a set of 2010's and tyres are easy to fit, they've needed no attention except to clean (I have white ones  ), and are nice and stiff.

I didnt like mine - too much flex and too soft - dented them twice, but then again Im a bit heavier than most and ride aggressively.

By far prefered my Fulcrum Red Metals - Personal opinion.

AM`s now on my wife`s bike.

I have raced mine hard and loved them , BUT here is my experience :

Hubs = fantastic , long lasting and when it’s time to fit bearings it’s a piece of cake ( depending on conditions you should not have to replace them for at least a year ).

Rims = horrid , very soft and dent easy , replaced mine and built a pair of ZTR Alpines onto the hubs and now the wheels are damb fine.

Thanks for the feedback! Any problems with the freehub body?

I did have problems with one set. Granted it was a set I got over eBay with the serial number filed off ( ), so something was dodgy from the start. LBS sorted it out though. If you get a set from a legit place you shouldn't have any issues.
