  1. Cycle that route almost daily, never had any issues. Be aware, there is always wind......and always from the front Finish it off with the Steenbras Dam climb on your way back, and voila a great ride!!
  2. Update: Riyadh airport (King Kalid International) do not allow any large parcels (including bike boxes) through the airport after recent terror attacks in Saudi. Be warned!!
  3. I travelled on Emirates on 12 May'16 to Dubai and Rijadh with my bike box and had no issue as my total weight were within the limits. Returning end of month and hoping not to have any issues.
  4. Great cannot wait for my 2nd one. Things to do/think differently than first time: 1. Stop worrying, it is really not that hard 2. Don't pack the complete Spar in, there is more than enough food provided 3. First 110km pace can be upped, then relax and take it easy (if you are climber) 4. Enjoy more than one cup of soup at Bergplaas and enjoy the sunset 5. Pack your face full with jaffels at the last water point - best jaffels ever AND lastly remember, this is the best race there is!!
  5. Do anyone know if the event date has been released? I suppose entries will open end of July?

  7. Hi All I will be in Riyadh for 3 months and will be taking my bike with to practice, do anyone know of groups cycling in Riyadh, or someone I can get in contact with? I need to continue my tri training, can not afford a 3 month "lay-off" Thanks
  8. Would rather follow CWC, they know how to run successful online promotions and retain customer loyalty.
  9. Very glad we decided not to enter this year, taking leave and having to deal with all the issues mentioned here.....just not worth it. And I stopped supporting ASG events some time ago
  10. Commuting from Stellenbosch to Mowbray (from end March to Century City)

  13. Just a huge thanks to Chris(do not know his surname) The story: So while working on a project in Gauteng, I caught a flight to George to meet up with my friends from Somerset West for our first Trans Baviaans. What a feeling and what an anticipation!! Everything went well the morning of the race, had a good breakfast and arrived at the start.....only to find that I somehow(still do not know how) lost my front wheel through-axel!!, unpacked the whole car, and still nothing. After several attempts by the race organiser to find me a replacement axel, my dreams were shattered(I literally almost started to cry). With me out of the race, and my partner trying to find a team to join, Chris approached me to see if he may borrow my seat clamp (his clamp broke), eager to help a fellow cyclist I gave him my seat clamp, and continued sulking about my self inflicted situation. 5min later Chris arrived back, my seat clamp didn't fit his bike So he offered me his through-axel!! Chris what a Champ!! We finished our first Trans Baviaans in just over 17hours and loved every moment thereof. Not only was I blown away by this gesture from Chris, but my partner(still new to cycling) could not believe the camaraderie of cyclist. And to Chris....you are the champ! I hope I can someday, somehow repay the gesture.

  18. When I still stayed in Pta, I was a member of Velo. If you want to improve, definitely the right club, you will learn a lot and definitely improve!
  19. Entry in, if anyone can give me some info regarding spectators points it will be highly appreciated. We have a few spectators going with and need information on how they can plan their route.
  20. Entry confirmed, 2nd year doing the Ride. Was sceptical the first year spending so much on a race, but definitely worth it. No hesitation this year to enter immediately.
  21. Jip, will never take part in any ASG event any more! If you think professional womans cycling dissapeared fast in SA, wait until ASG have a monopoly on all races in SA and see what happens. We need to grow the sport not exploit it!
