All weather tyre as Larsen TT's in Muddy weather are caking up

Howzit,

Running Larsen TT's on my scott. In Muddy weather the mud to cling to the wheels like a bad rash. This causes it to cake onto the fork at the top, and between the frame and the rear wheel. I'm running LArsen TT's, what would be a better all weather tyre for my training bike, its a scott spark 60 2011. It gets so bad I have to carry the bike to a dry spot to remove the mud so that I can carry on...FML

Cheers,

Andrew

In terms of maxxis tires:

the Larsen TT has very closely spaced knobs, excellent for holding mud.

Choose a tire with wider spacing between knobs. Those generally have very good mud clearing capabilities.

Crossmark, Advantage, ignitor and specifically, the beaver. The high roller also sheds mud pretty well, just be sure to take super tacky (42a) to ensure the rubber sticks to wet rocks and roots as best it can.

Andrew...

Did you buy your bike from Cajees - they lurve that tyre!

My opinion:

Larsen TT are not at all mud or even wet tyres... Perfect for dry hardpack and shale slightly loose ground... NOT even close to all weather tyre.

@Capricorn is correct... the wider the spaces the thicker the mud can be...

Some kinds of clay will clogg up any tyre - Dirtmax after serious rain! - but wider spaces will lessen the speed at which it will clogg up :)

Also will give the Crossmark a nod, although I've been burping mine a lot of late. Will put that done to a bad rim-tyre combo. But all-time fave all-weather choice: Conti MK. Sure it drags, but I ain't in a rush.

Yeah. TT not so lekker for mud. Try Crossmark at the back, Monorail front.

TT grip like mad in loose and gravelly, but Crossmark seem to shed better in muddy conditions. TT is not the best tyre for front though anyway.

The best tire I have seen self cleaning ability wise is definitely a Schwalbe Rocket Ron EVO.

A good all round combo would be a Race King 2.2 Monorail 2.1 Combo, or Rocket Ron - Racing Ralph for a more aggressive tread.

Also very popular is the Crossmark - Monorail Combo.
