Hi Guys,

I have a Trek 6000 (about 2004). A friend gave me a Giant Talon 2010 frame, this frame as far as I can see is only made for Disc brakes. I want to transfer my groupset, crank, bb, etc to the new frame. My components on the Trek is still in a very good condition. I have the following questions:

1. Is it possible to fit v-brakes on the Giant Talon frame?

2. If I cannot use v-brakes on this frame is it worth it to buy disc brakes taking into consideration that my rims on my Trek is still the older version and that I would most probably have to change the hubs on my rims.

3. Would it be a better bet to swop the Giant Talon frame for a frame that can take V-brakes and that are still in a good condition.

Guys please take note that I am a roadie and only used my Trek to cycle with my son but would like to start with some shorter distance mtb races.

Regards, Willem

check if your fork is disk compatable then you can get a wheelset for R600.00

and bisk brakes for R500 to R1000 and it will be sorted, maybe a problem on seatpost size and headset?

i have a spare v brake compatable giant frame in a medium or a diamondback in large if you dont want the disk brake route

I have a set of disc brake wheels with rotors I'm not using if you decide to take the plunge. Personally I don't thing the "upgrade" from Trek frame to Talon will be worth your while, you may be better off selling and replacing the entire bike if you are itching for a change.
