Cannondale SuperSix 5 vs Giant TCR Comp 2

Recommended Posts

Trying to decide between the 2012 Cannondale SuperSix 5 and the 2012 Giant TCR Comp 2.

The Cannondale has:

  • More Traditional frame
  • Full 105 groupset
  • Mavic Aksium Wheels

The Giant has:

  • Compact frame design
  • Ultegra shifters & rear derailer
  • 105 front derailer
  • Rest of the groupset is 'generic' Shimano componenets
  • Giant wheels

You can see the detailed specs here if you wish:

I can get the Cannondale for R1000 more then the Giant.

I am planing to use the bike for normal riding/races and for triathlons/ironman.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks

Thanks Gman. It is just out of my price range for now...that would also be close to the Cannondale 105's usual price.

Would love to go the Ultegra root...an option would be to wait a while and do that.

I am not too worried about a little bit of weight difference.

So far I am still leaning towards the Cannondale way...

Cannondale would be my choice. The 105 group is very underrated and the Aksium wheels are very strong but not the lightest.

Yea I would look to upgrade the wheels in the future gummibear.

Agreed CAAD4 (I see you are not biased at all :) )

Not quite a full 105 groupset but close, has a FSA BB30 crank.

Cannondale (58cm) - 8.2kg

Giant (Medium) - 8.4kg

I am planing to use the bike for normal riding/races and for triathlons/ironman.

The Giant has a much more aero design for TT's and IM's

Tough choice ... they both look great in their own ways!

I would go for the Cannondale. Maybe look at getting a 56cm instead of 58cm. I'm sure you could get away with it. Take your old bike measurements with you to see if it's possible. I must say the Giants are good bang for buck though. Nothing wrong with the 105 on the Dale.

I would take the dale for sure. Sexy bike and let's face it looks is everything :-)

I ended up getting the 56cm Cannondale! It does seem to be the better bike and at a good price of R18500 (although they are both really nice bikes!)

Tankman...well there isn't a Shimano BB30 crank and it also came with an Ultegra rear derailer. Agreed the Giant is probably a little more aero...but both being road bikes they will never be like the real thing...have to settle with hopefully the best all rounder.

Can't wait to test ride it tomorrow!

Congratulations. Enjoy the maiden outing. Bet you won't be able to sleep tonight. Better pay attention to the better half tonight or you gonna hear it when you get back from riding.
