Not been there, but I'm pretty sure the dam is not in PMB, closer to Hillcrest/ Shongweni in Durban then Maritzburg.

Yes. They have nice permanent tent style accommodation overlooking the water.

However, the road getting to the gate is quite rural, so be careful if you are using a sedan or hatchback.

Hey Bio

Is there a reason why you going Shongweni ?

Would be better looking up the KZN Midlands way..Howick in particular

One of the guys at my office suggested it so was just wandering cause its quite affordable. As the main reason we want to go is to watch the world cup

Shongweni dam is about 70km form PMB. Rather try Midmar dam they have many options available and is only 25km/15min form the WC venue.

Howick trails are awesome 2.

Try Albert Falls as well if you are looking for accomodation. I think they have chalets but you can camp as well. Same applies to Midmar. Shongweni is about +/- 70km from PMB

Wrong dam for WC chap. Try Midmar or Albert Falls if you want to be near water.

The water doesn't bother me. I will google some more and find a better spot tx

Try to get a place close to Karkloof in that case, then you can get some nice riding done in the morning, and then head off to the venue.

Try The Mole and Pig on the midlands meander...self catering spots, lekker pub, you can braai and be left to your own devices there and it wasn't too costly. They also stock Notting Hill Brewery's beers if you were planning on mixing culture with sport(s)....

Look in Hilton ... loads of B&Bs and very close to W Cup venue .... or you could try PMB itself.
