I have an event in September and need to train through winter...so need to invest in an indoor trainer.

Any suggestions as to which one I should be looking at?

Budget is around R1 000

Best is to try and borrow one before wasting your money on something you might not use. Many of us have one lying around full of dust.

PM me. I'll let you have mine for R1000 including a spare rear wheel and a trainer specific tyre.

My only recommendation would be to get one with a power meter. Very very useful for training indoors.

Power readings are a nice to have, but you can get a very good estimate of power just using speed and a speed-power curve for the trainer.

Check out Trainerroad.com and the SportTracks trainer plug-in.

Agree. I have a Tacx trainer with power readings that is seriously collecting dust

R1000 is probably only going to get you a fairly basic type trainer.

Those are more prone to becoming dust collectors/door stops.

Make sure you have a good training program to follow, some good music to listen too, or some good training videos/cycling coverage to watch.

A virtual trainer removes a lot of the boredom, but will cost you ± R5k.

Do what I did and get rollers , beats the boring indoor trainer

Rollers, your rollers got adjustable resistance?

How do you simulate hills or high resistance efforts on normal rollers

This looks interesting. Have you had any experience with them? Edited by Mikesa9

I'm also looking for one. Have a big race in the States in September and will have to keep going.

PM me if you have something that is collecting dust. Cape Town preferably so that I can come view it.
