SRAM RED vs Dura-ace crank

besides the price difference are there any hidden advantages to each, currently was on an Ultegra 6700 compact and moved to the std size but using an old Ultegra 172 mm but was looking to have 175mm 53-39

I'm not looking for someone to tell they have a bargain for me just whether one is better than the other

I get the feeling that the Shimano shifts better, maybe I'm wrong, there arent many/any Dura-ace 7900 cranks second hand which leads me to believe that they are very good and the owners dont wanna let them go.

Any Thoughts

Hi wapad

I can tell you from intimate experience - i bought full DA 7900 - actually i was on the compact so 7950 crank. I then bought a quarq power meter which came with the SRAM s975 (red).

Honestly, the DA shifts better. I have had to swtich back on a few occations if there was a problem with the quarq. The DA is know for it's shifting and it's about the best there is. I am now running Di2 and it works with both cranks but it's lightning fast on the DA.

That being said, the SRAM is a great crank and shifts better than most. I have also tried the FSA and it does not shift as well as either, by quite a margin in my opinion. My power meter came on an FSA to start and i sent it back.

If you are faced with 2 at the same price then take the DA. If you end up with the SRAM you won't be unhappy.

Hope that helps.

Do you shift with your crank? Or what exactly do you want to know?

The comments above confirm what I thought that the DA shift blades slightly smoother and that the guys who have DA hold onto them

Thanks for the inputs

I had DA 7900 and moved to Sram Red. I am not going back to Shitmano for love nor money.

Sram Red 1 click shifting is a 1000 times better than DA, the whole group, including the crank is much lighter and it's cheaper to boot. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Unless you want Di2. Personally I find the concept annoying - like a remedial group for people who can't set or change gears without mechanical assistance.

Echoing what Luck Luke has to say. Elecronic shifting is probably worst cycling concept ever. More marketing crap to fleece us from more money.

I could just well imagine the cost to maintain such a groupset, should something go wrong. With electronics anything can and will go wrong at any time
