Mmmmmm, interesting concept. Burley, Co Motion, Santana and others make use of S couplings to split the frame and make it easier to transport. Also alternating 26" MTB wheels with 700C wheels worx. el rapido started life as an experimental MTB tandem but was changed into a road Tandem later. Also interesting to her Ritchey talk about straight bars with BAR ENDS. If bars ends is acceptable for Ritchey...... Stuff the Hub fahionista..... Their opinions means nothing.

Those'd be S and S couplings from S and S smachine you're referring to. Can't quite fathom how the breakaway ones work (haven't really researched much. Ritchey does these on a single bike too.

Pretty impressive what those couplings allow you to break your frame down to, especially on a tandem. I had friends out from Germany a few years ago on a custom built carbon fibre Calfee full suspension (Ventana suspension) bike with S and S couplings. Entire bike broken down into it's case and fitted with ease on the the back seat of their 3-series rental! They rode frikken Mankele on that thing too!!!

Even Mr Ritchey knows they don't belong on riser bars....

Is Mr Ritchey in CT for the Epic .. saw a tall rider who resembles him very strongly, riding the cycle lanes. Snor and all.

Any way if it is he gave a friendly greeting in return
