wanted to know myself, as garmin have been laughing to the bank for far too long in this game. about bloody time someone else came in and gave them a run for their money. My prediction is that this industry will move to a price war as the hardware is now pretty much understood, we'll all win there thank you. if a stripped down android unit comes in then it's a real race to the bottom.

it appears the 50 compares straighter to the edge 705, but that is no longer available.

edge 800 from easygis

http://www.easygis.c...roducts_id=1339

R3399

bryton 50

from their online store

http://www.bryton.co...on-rider-50-gps

R3199

but the bryton 50 comes with maps pre loaded(not sure how decent they are). garmap is R1299 for sa topo. yip, that's the price without the tub of vaseline. maps all paid for by our tax money and then 'converted' to their format.

just for reference, at wiggle.co.uk

bryton 50 - £141.64 - ~R1700 pre tax/shipping etc. - way cheaper than local ballistic bike trading price

garmin edge 800 - £262.49 - R3156 per tax/shipping etc. - similar to local price

Here in Italy the Bryton 50 is just under 160 EUR

How they justify twice the price in SA is beyond me...especially since Bryton is supposed to be an SA based company!
