Dickie Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Hi all and welcome to 2008!!Please can I have some suggestions on whether to look at purchasing a bike with the best components I can afford or disc brakes. I have had varying comments on both. At present have v-brakes and often wonder how much more control the discs would give me. If we decide to go with the components do we look at 24/27 speed?Thanks.Dickie
AndreZA Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 For starters components that's still 24 speed is really low end. You can get good components and good V's or mediocre components with mediocre discs. What ever you do, don't go for cable disc brakes.
ErnestoC Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 IMHO, I'd go for better components. I find V brakes performance more than adequate and for my riding needs I find difficult to justify discs and have to deal with complex and expensive maintenance thereafter.
