So i went into my LBS this weekend to get a new chain ring for my MTB. I was told by the owner of the shop that Race Face parts were impossible to get hold of as they've gone t*ts up.

I had 2 choices, phone around and try find a middle chain ring from a bike shop that had old stock, or replace my entire crank.

I managed to find a middle ring at another bike shop, but i want to know whether i was about to get taken for a ride, of whether my LBS was lazy and hadn't ordered.

The outcome of responses to this post will determine whether i name and shame (and continue to use) my local bike shop.

They did, but have since been bought out and production is up and running again. Will probably take a while for the local distributors to get their hands on stock as they are not the best out there.

You should be able to fit a different brand chainring that works with your crank.

The story with Race Face closing shop has been coming for a long time. If its a standard 4 bolt chainring you can put just about any replacement ring on there.

Their website is still up with 2012 components, so they can't be gone I'd say.
