There was a bit more insight given as to Kevin's catastrophic brake failure in the 2011 Epic - looks like the pistons melted with the heat (?) Onto the pads - or the pads were dodgy as well. cant imagine pads melting, but some pistons are some kinds of plastic. Story at the time were the discs were Al, don't think that was the case.

 

 

Were those XX Brakes?

 

It also seems to me they are to pedantic about saving a few grams here and there, at the expense or tried & tested reliability.
