Hey Guys,

I've been looking for a decent 29er for a while now and have come down to these two options. They both have a tapered head tube and RockShox Reba forks. That's almost where the similarities end.

The Giant is a SRAM X9/X7 mix which Avid Elixir 5 brakes, it has a full 15mm thru axle and tubeless compatible rims and tyres. Cost R15900

The Titan is mostly Shimano XT components with M505 brakes and non-tubeless compatible rims and tyres. Cost R14400

If I went for the Titan I would upgrade the brakes to XT brakes and a full 15mm thru axle. I haven't gotten a quote for this yet but I have R1500 to play with.

So it comes down to SRAM X9/X7 with Elixir brakes vs Shimano XT. So which bike would you go for? Or any other comments/suggestions?

Not sure what you mean by tubeless or non-tubeless compatible rims, neiter of these bikes have tubeless rims but both can be converted.

Tires are either UST, UST ready or ... well just a normal tire ;)

That means a new fork and new front wheel or at least a rebuild on a hub that can accommodate the 15mm thruaxle, kiss your R1500 long goodbye.

That depends, are you a Shimano or Sram fan?

Seriously now ... when the bikes are so close in price and spec then make sure the bike you buy is the bike that handles best and feels right for you WHEN RIDING.

All this $#^#$^%#^ talk of buying a bike based on what the flipping rear der or brake set is must really stop.

Make sure the bike if a good handling bike first, then nit pick the components. Bike graphics and colour are also factors to consider only once you have found the right bikes.

So Twiggz, have you tested any of these bikes yet?
