Yep - such is my fate that weekend. Weekend with family & inlaws at the coast.

Otherwise I might have pitched up to see if there was a nice Autobus at the back to help pull me around - not because I'm a sprinter, just because I'm slow .... ;)

Just learnt that this L S D ride is on a loooong weekend with a public holiday on 27/04 and 01/05....

So many will be on a lil' break away from work.

That's why I'll be able to ride it.

I am Secunda based. What type of seeding must you have for a sub 7.

Not sure. Anyone answer this? I guess a sub 3hr 100km is a start. I'm using the monthly Jo'burg Audax 200km rides as a guide. Averaging 30km/h on these events, without any rests, should put us in the right ballpark.

With that kind of speed you're going to exceed the Max Speed for audax events .... ;)

FWIW - my PPA seeding group is "P" which has been around a 25km/h average on recent rides (don't know how other orgs seeding letters work). So @speedracer's 30km/h would suggest top few alphabet letters. By my calcs that moving speed will give you 17 mins for water/fuel stops and fixing any punctures. Seems a little tight on contingency if you're hungry for that sub 7 - I'd reckon you might need to aim at a higher speed.

But .... I'm not in your league, and haven't done a DC before, so I could be talking k*k

Agree. To do it in less than 7 hours, should aim to average 33-35 km/h. The speed and power of the team of the team is also a significant factor. Seven well-organized riders can keep going at relatively high speeds over long distances.

Nice ... I dream of averaging those kind of speeds one day ;) ... best I managed this season was a 90km stretch at just over 27 km/h, but I was a total wheelsuck for nearly all of that. Luckily no one seemed to notice or mind

That is my averages as well. :) Which is a good thing - as we are in the same team. Right ?

That's the way to go faster. Ride with people who are faster. Wheelsuck, whatever to stay in the buch. Next time you'll be quicker.

Thanks - I keep telling myself that to feel better about not being upfront doing more of the work :whistling: Had a couple of bad experiences with bunches crashing in my first season riding which put me off, but forced myself to get back in the mix this year and it's really helped push me to go harder than I do solo.

Have to agree with Speedracer. Get in there and cling on. Not only will a group pull you along (aerodynamically) - but it will also (more importantly) motivate you to go harder in order not to loose them.

You'll get home, having wheelsucked, with higher HR's than on hard solo training rides, just because there was something tangible to chase.
