Anyone tested the claimed 15hr battery life of the Edge 800?

Debating whether to use my Edge 500, and old hiking eTrex Vista, or my car Nuvi 500 for long multi-day endurance rides (i.e. audax use).

I see they claim the edge 800 has a 15 hr battery life, which combined with mapping could make it ideal - albeit then I need to buy something else, when I have devices already.

Anyone actually got close to 15 hr use on one - and what's the recharge time after?

You can also charge it from a battery pack ... like those ones they use to charge cellphones.

If you find the correct usb cable, you can charge the unit while using it ... I found that I have one of those usb cables by accident

Cheers - I've got an SON dynamo hub for audax use, so charging shouldn't be a problem.

The issue is I need a whole night run without a charge. I went with the smaller dynamo, which at night only really has enough juice to run my light. So I need the GPS to run through the night on it's own battery, then I can charge from dynamo during the day when it's not needed for the light.

Ta for the feedback - 13 hrs should be plenty.

Edit - fixed bad wording!

Haha - fair point. I am a bit of an obsessive planner.

Would it make you more or less nervous if I told you my new Ti frame for audax use should be arriving from UK in next couple of weeks?

Did I mention I was obsessive ... ?

While we talking edge 800.... i have just had my 705 warranty swopped for a 800.

I find that you have to touch or swipe twice to change screens. Its like you wake the screen up when you first touch and then second touch changes it?

once its awake it moves with one touch, but after 15 or 30 seconds you have to swipe twice again?

The backlight is OFF.

On the edge 705 this only happens when the backlight is on.

The screen on the 800 is not as sunlight readable as the 705....

Interesting, ta.

One thing tempting me to mount my nuvi 500 on bike, despite being big and bluky, is the highly vis screen - plus I can have a voice prompt shout "turn right" at me if I'm falling asleep after a few 100kms and start to wander off route.

Plus I have one already .... so no extra $$$ needed. Battery life is a bit of a close call though for a whole night's cycling.

Also - read quite a few people who broke the nuvi 500 bike mount in use, which on our potholed roads seems a bit iffy too.
