I've just bought a 2.4SL 24 spoke Powertap hub here on the hub ;) and need to get it built into a wheel

I'm not the world's thinnest bloke, and currently push the bathroom scale right up to 85. If I'm down to 'racing weight' the scale shows 77. The wheel will do a lot if IDT training, as well as a few outside (non Tour de Lounge) routes

Options at the moment are Easton EA90SLX or Mavic Ksyrium Equipe. Any other options?

Which will be the better (strongest/lightest/whatever) option? Elaboration on choice will be appreciated ;)

The Mavic looks like it's got better reinforcement around the spoke holes. The graphics also look more restrained.

They look like they're similar depths, so the heavier one will probably be stronger, though both are probably strong enough.

Sitting considering a powertap too.

So many things to think about:

1. which model hub

2. 24/28/32 hole

3. which rim (or maybe 2 to build complete wheelset)

American Classic rims seem to be a popular choice too - CR420.

I read in another thread that standard shallow box-type rims are the most reliable.

CycleOps have their own rims however the most common rims used are as follows:

24H Alcyon by Remerx, American Classic 420, DT dwiss if you can find stock (haha)

28H Mavic Open Pro

32H Mavic Open pro or CycleOps branded rim

if you contact bicycle power trading they will be able to build any of the above rims up at very good prices and quick turn around time they also know how the power tap wheels should be built up and normally carry stock of the above mentioned rims

info(at)bicyclepower.co.za or 011-023-27777

in a couple of months bicycle power trading will have cycleops branded rims in the following options 20, 24, 28 and 32 as well as the spokes to match

Had a look at a 24H Alcyon by Remerx (like pic, just black) this afternoon. Subjectively it feels the lightest so far. Also the most expensive

Cheap, light, strong... pick 2 comes to mind.

Is it a strong rim?

Anybody with experience with it?

Back to the topic...

Currently my only REAL options are

  • Ksyrium Equipe
  • Remerx Alcyon

as I've been told that the distributors do not have stock of the Eastons, nor do they know when they'll get..

My son watched the Nickelodeon awards with me, The BigShow is a big boy.

The reply was for DangerDave.

We have not had any problems with the Alcyon rim and if I am correct bicycle power sell the wheel built for R1275 or there abouts

So out of all your options it is the cheapest from bicycle power trading.

They also have stock!
