Shin Scars + Spiky Pedals = The Never Ending Story

Any suggestions on good pads? I recently went back to flats with some gnarly spikes and id hate to rip my legs again.

Back in the day i slipped off a set of beartraps and ripped my right shin pretty much from ankle to knee. Not a pretty sight. The shin bone still feels dented and the scar tissue is super thin.

There is a solution and the answer is so simple that I'm surprised no one has mentioned it.

get.better.shoes.

I've run all sorts of spiked pedals. Crap Brothers 50-50s, Wellgo B52's, Nuke Proof Neutrons (my fav by far)... and yes... DMR V12's.

All were rather grippy on a skate shoe. But raking my shins still happened.

I upgraded to FiveTens and I can honestly say that in the 13 or so months I've been running them I have not slipped a pedal. Seroiusly... not.even.once! Wet, dry... doesn't matter. Decent pedals and FiveTens grip like crazy.

One can put pretty much their entire weight on the pedal, tilt it 45deg (maybe even 60) and it still wont slip.

I know they're pricey... but seriously... FiveTens... worth every cent!

In fact, a while ago I bought some nice new TLD Lopes knee&shin guards, and some TLD T-bones (just knee, more like 661 Kyle straights) at the same time. I've barely used the Lopes because shin incidents aren't an issue!

That said, I still get hacked by my pedals on occasion. But only from not paying attention to where my legs are when pushing my bike

lol @ patches: u took the words outta my mouth re the shoes

if you can afford it, the Astars MOAB Knee-shin pads are The Best. TLD Brian Lopes are faultless as well, and quite a bit cheaper. Then there is the 661/raceface stuff. Anything with a hard shell will protect your sticks against the them pins.
