HI guys,

Hoping for some advice here.

I'm looking at buying a 2012 Scott Spark 29 Team and upgrading the groupset. I've been advised/warned not to as it may result in some 'niggles' down the line. I'm assuming some parts not fitting with frame properly, etc.

I'm looking at replacing groupset with a 2011 X9 one.

Any advice? Thanks

Besides possible BB issues (compatibility) I can't see any reason why not - groupsets are not bike/frame/manufacturer specific and assuming you know what you're doing ....

That's what I thought.... maybe there are some 'Scott' specific things I don't know about...

I'd start by asking who it was that warned you... if it was the salesman then he's probably just trying to get you to bump up to the next model, more turnover for him. If it was a mechanic, then I'd say get a second opinion, and ask for reasons. 'Niggles down the line' isn't particularly illuminating.

I speak under correction but there are NO Scott 'specific' groupset issues full stop. The only question would be what BB bracket the 2011 X9 groupset has and what is used on the Scott. This would possibly requiring buying a new BB only ....

But ja that's just me .... I'm sure th 'ub ekspets will soon set us right ;)

No it was a mate (who is a bit more clued up than me) so no 'sales talk', etc. I cannot honestly see the problem - a groupset is a groupset...

In that case I'd run it by the mechanic at your LBS, and see if you can get any kind of details on what might not work. Or just go through all the interfaces and see if you can see anything non-standard, but I can't think of anything offhand on a Spark...

The only thing that seems a bit odd is their new Direct Post mount (position of back brake) but I'm assuming that it's just the position of the brake that's changed and nothing else.

Thanks for the help chaps...
