Nice blog.

I was very impressed with the turn out. Not so impressed that I didn't win the W2W's entry (they called out the 3 numbers above mine), but what can one do.

Got to meet some really nice people that have been involved in building the bmx track and the trails. Looking forward to all that is to come in the future.

I can't comment on Thandi"pual k at this stage....BUT...I've been invited to ride the Rheboks kloof MTB loop SAt past...

boy oh boy...all i can say is that the guys (who are in the know about all WP single rack...as they ride them all often...) recon that this 15km piece of single track is now rated (unofficially...) as the best single track in the Westwern cape...

I recon they are not far from wrong!!

The Rhebokskloof trail will open at the end of JAn - and be administered via Paarl MTB club..."you lucky bastards!!"

Build by Hans Degenaar and a team of proffesional trail builders...

check this vid out...

I'll still open a seperate thread on this...watch my words within 2 years the Epic prologue will be held here...

Hijack off....

I tried to ride at Thandi and Paul Cluver during December and got lost 3 times within 15km. IMHO Welvenpas is 100 times better.

To be fair though, I have since heard that the PC part is still not officially open due to delays in the completion of the bike park at the amphitheater. Apparently when thats done its going to be great.

ps, looking forward to Rhebokskloof!!!

Cycled the Rhebokskloof trail 2 weeks ago with guys from Paarl MTB (its not marked yet) and it was amazing!! Such beautifully cut trails. Worth the climb up 'the Eliminator' we took to get there.

Yes, i did not mention the climb...it was a bit gruelling...but once at the top..I had to plug my mouth not to squeal with delight...

now, I know what proffessional trail building looks like (being a trail builder myself...= rookie!!)

Paarl MTB are sure lucky!

Nope , no idea .

Oak Valley and Lebanon is also around the corner - done them recently (about 2 months ago) .

Thanks but we have all done Oakvalley (lots) + Lebanon. The weekend we are planning is the 24hour Oakvalley race anyways.

That's what I am worried about (bad signage). Pity the bike park only opens on 15 Feb  .. plan was to take my mates there as I told them how much fun W2W was.

Edit: Bit of a rant coming up...

A friend and myself set out for Paul Cluver yesterday morning since we've only heard good things about the trails. When we got there we paid our R50 permit (which seemed on the high side, but whatever). We drove up to the electric gate at the top, only to find it closed. The guard gave us no code to the PIN pad, and the buzzer also didn't work. We then drove down to the guard again only for him to inform us that he doesn't have the remote or the code for the gate?? He then phoned someone which would come and open the gate. About 5mins later, he comes back to us and tells us the guy isn't coming with the remote, but he found another remote. But he is not allowed to give it to us. We then ask him if he has the contact details of anyone else that administers the trails. He did not.

I don't really blame the security guard. He's only been working there two days and the owners or organizers should have better prepared him. They should also have thought about who will open the freaking trails in the morning in the first place.

Bit of a let down and not the ideal bike date  . We had to "settle" for Oakvalley. Luckily a good alternative. Guess I'll have to wait for W2W before riding there...
