Giant indoor trainer - MTB use

Advice required:

 

Must you change your mountainbike tire to a slick to use the Giant Indoor Trainer, dont want to change wheels every time

 

Pro and cons of doing it?

Noisy and may slip a bit on the roller wheel .

Yes, put a slick on the back, I don't see an alternative.

Either buy a cheapo rear wheel or a cheapo road bike. I've got an old Pug that I use on the trainer. The advantage of a cheapo rear wheel is that you have a spare, if you need it, and that you train on the bike you race on.

Buy a cheap makro slick. you will ruin your knobbly (so to speak) with the heat build up

Pro's of changing

• Less noise (MUCH less)
  
• MTB tire won't wear (Knobblies take a heavy beating on an IDT)
  
• You won't have pieces of rubber lying around (depends on tread)
  

 

Con's

• Will have to swop tire or have second rear wheel
