#Pete# Posted January 7, 2008 Share I've seen lots of suggestions on Motionbased for a USB charger to recharge the Edge on the go or keep it running for say a 24hr event. (http://forums.motionbased.com/smf/index.php?topic=5519.0) Has anyone found anything like that in SA? (I'd like to buy something that works - not into battery DIY). I saw someone had a solar powered charger on the Cederberg 3 day race which looked neat, but is perhaps too slow?
knersis Posted January 7, 2008 Share Saw some usb charger that uses penlights at Hifi Corruption alias Corporation. Think it takes 4 penlights, should give you arround 2300 mah at 5v, if you use rechargle batteries. The kit was round about R180 bucks. Not sure about the quality.. pbp2007 Posted January 7, 2008 Share I know you want ready-made, but in case you change your mind I built the Mintyboosthttp://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/ total cost about R200 for kit of all components including case and import duty/VAT.The concept works for me so I imagine the Hi-Fi Corporation gadget would do the job. I've also used the Flexopower Solarpouchhttp://www.flexopower.com/products.phpand was a bit disappointed with its solar recharging/holding of charge and its charging of my Forerunner 301. Cost about R1 000 for the 3-panel model. In its favour is versatility in charging (from the Sun, AC mains and car 12V socket - adapters included) as well as output (various adapters for cellphones, plus mini-USB). There is a cheaper 1-panel version.
casspir Posted January 7, 2008 Share Two more options:Have a look at: http://www.boxwave.com/products/batteryadapter/index.htm<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />I have one but it does not seem to be a charger for the Edge, rather an extended battery pack running on AA batteries. This might be the answer. Rather use 4 x AA?s per day and keep the boxwave in a top tube bag or something. I used it on an iPod but unfortunately the iPod battery packed up. It may be due to the Boxwave or just the iPod battery on itself. Not sure which one. Also look at: http://www.zartek.co.za/powerpack.htmI see it?s available from Outdoor Warehouse. regards, casspir
