out-of-my-depth in this arena  ...noted

well its not quite so simplistic as that :) but go record on 720P at 60fps and then 1080 @ 30 and see if you notice a difference on your kit i.e. tv / computer.

Some say they do most say they dont. I prefer the 1080 but its personal prefrence only. Never had any issues.

Yeah your missing loads,,,,,, the human eye cannot process more than 25fps so there is no need to ever go higher than 30 :D

True but if you use higher frames per second, the slow-motion stuff is so much more awesome!

In theory, the higher the fps the slower you can make the action

Just some feedback...right did 3 recordings of about 40 minutes each on yesterday's ride

  1. 1080 @ 30fps
  2. 960 @ 48fps
  3. 720 @ 60fps

Without a doubt the 1080 is the worst...not quality wise but wrt smoothness, it isn't the best. The 960 has great detail and I could see it being usefull in some positions like on a "chesty". The best all-round is defnitely 720 @ 60fps...it still has great detail / resolution but it is buttery smooth...no jelly effect on some bumpy stuff. The sound is pretty hondnaai though...to the point that I would actually love to disable it to save space on card....anyone know how?

See at least now you know your preferences what class memory card are you running?

4...16GB....lexar, cheap and cheerfull from makro. According to most of the forums for gopro video, class 4 is perfect...you only need a 10 when you do the 0.5sec interval pic taking feature on the gopro. Also they reckon ito image / video quality the class of SD card has got nothing to do with it, the 10 just allows writing to the card to be faster. The constraint of 30fps on 1080 is a gopro constraint not the SD card's so changing to a higher class wouldn't have changed my results. I did the same section three times and compared apples with apples and I prefer the 720 and 960 recording settings it is defnitely smoother which makes the experience alot better, but that is me

Exactly the reason you get the "spongy" effect mate, its a buffering issue to your cam due the SD card being a bit slow. The higher the resolution the more data it needs to write in the same space and time. but as said earlier most people are happy sticking to class 4 cards at 720 or 960 since their home entertainment systems hardly differentiate between the three formats. Its only if you have some serious audio and visual kit that you will notice the diff.

I will try my mate's class 10, would love the 1080 to be smooth since it has the higher res. If it does, I will get a better class card for sure. On average the higest res 1080 is about a third bigger in file size than the other two formats. Any idea on how to disable the audio recording...its useless anyway

Nope never tried, besides if you yell loud enough when you wipe it makes for funny clips :D

hehehehe true....

will try another thing...will run my video(1080 quality) I recorded through VLC and see how many frames were dropped causing spongyness, if zero then a class 10 won't be the answer surely?

Hey mate all i know is that i run mine 1080 on a UHF class SD card, and i get perfect recording...... If you have the chance to test a mates SD card without having to fork out cash for the test, then go do it, whats the worst that can happen.

What attachments are you guys using? I find the handlebar too nausea-inducing. Handlebar moves too much compared to the rest of the bike. Helmet sucks because you never see the proper height of jumps - Patches can do cool slowmo killer jumps and it looks like he's rolling along on the lawn.

Chest is ok if I make it very tight (otherwise bounces everywhere), but I have to reduce the POV otherwise I get my face (edit: and arms - very distracting seeing parts of the rider). Maybe I could point it more down - just have to get the angle right. But it's a bit sucky when all you see is the ground - want to keep telling the camera dude to pick it up a bit.

I had a good result with it pointing backwards from the seatpost. Element of surprise because you don't see what's coming until it has. Can't do a whole video like that though.

I'd like to try the roll-cage attachment and put it on thicker parts of my bike. Less left-right movement, better idea of the terrain and sometimes it's nice seeing the suspension working.

I dont know i dont get too much movement on the Handlebars, or seatpost, tried the chest and helmet and that just didnt work for me. I mostly mount mine on the handlebars.

On my stem with the seatpost clamp / bracket, the rollcage bracket does seem cool, defnitely on my shopping list.

I want a harness for my dog...now that could be awesome

Or a cat, if you have a big one. Climbing on the roof, attacking the neighbours, sh*gging the kitty next door. Cats live in 3D, dogs in 2D since they just scuffle along the ground :)

Might be just practice, or faster terrain. I'll take it to Clarens this weekend and see what I get.
