What's the difference between the 9 & 10 Spd XT M770 cranksets ?

I'm looking at getting a new bike that is 10 spd and wanted to replace the Deore Crank with my current XT 9Spd...

Thanks

One is for 9 speed drivetrains and the other for 10 speed :P

Just kidding, theres a diff in the lengths of 9 vs 10spd chains i.e. the blades will have teeth with varying diamters and spaces inbetween.

I always thought it was only the width of the chain that was different .......

But with regards to teeth on the crank blade, there is no difference between the two.

AFAIK.

The spacing between the sprockets is more of an issue on the cassette.

could be i know you can use a 10spd chain on a 9spd drivetrain, so might be more in relation to the width than the length.

I was also wondering about the same thing. From what I've read it isn't a problem to run a 10sp chain on a 9sp crank as both use the same cog/ring tooth widths, however there can be difficulties adjusting the front shifting if you use a 10sp front derailleur (the 10sp derailleur will under-shift slightly on a 9sp crank). The advice seems to be to match FD to crank and you'll be ok.
