A bit of info that might make IT people laugh:

I work for Pearson (worlds largest publisher and learning company. Offices in over 70 countries - so a lot of kit); I started a thread on our internal social network and file sharing portal and asked IT staff from across the globe to post how often they re-build windows machines, and how often they re-build Mac's....

The average global answer:

PC - every 4 months

Mac - every 2 years

Did you also ask how many Windows machines there are in the group and how many Macs there are?

Aren't you confusing GC with Power Agent (the Cycle-Ops software)?

I should have said Power Meters rather than Power Taps but it still holds true that its geared more for measuring of power outputs.

Why do you say that, please elaborate?

As heman said, GTC for Windows and Mac is exactly the same piece of software just written for different os's. In other words, what's a limiting factor within Windows is the same within Mac.

If you're looking for some free software to record and interogate your workouts, have a look at MyTourBook. I use it in Linux and its realtively easy to use although the documentation can be found wanting.

I know the ratio, and we have thousands of each, which is enough for a sample size of each group. But the question was asked about how often each specific gets built - that is to say each PC gets re-built on average every 4 months, regardless of how many there are.

Depending on the amount they purchase it shouldnt effect you too much, but the company as a whole is a good one.

My work laptop has a 3 years old XP installation on, and is still going strong, despite the latest round of security policy & software reconfigurations. My home PC's Windows 7 installation is a year old, and no issues....

And back to training software to be used on the Mac....

But you are not the average user..... Well I hope not :D

Nothing special about me, but I'm not Mr. Avg :D

Why would the Mac version of GTC be any different than the Windows version ?

It's crap on both !!

Golden Cheetah is predominantly for use with Power Taps.

It's nothing compared to trainingpeaks, but the mac version of GTC is so much better than the windows one.

Other than look & feel, what additional features does GTC for Mac have that is missing in the Windows version?

I haven't used the windows one for so long now..look and feel do play a big part.

for one on GTC mac you plot different graphs for each variable, (one for speed/ eleveation, etc)

whereas on the windows one they're all in one, thats the only thing I can think of off the top of my head...

Can you change the scale of one axis at a time? or perhaps change the start/end range of an axis? Or select a range on the map/graph and see it highlighted on the other (with min/max/average on the graph)?

Can you create summaries of you data (date ranges, activity type, etc)?

With Garmin having made such a big thing about power training, what power training functionalities (other than power reading on the spot) is available on the Mac version?

These, and a lot more are missing in the Windows version.
