GroupOn are so unethical it's barely possible to differentiate them from crooks. The manipulation of normal price to sell at a so called saving is blatantly dishonest.

But pyro has certainly not covered itself in glory either in this episode. I think Hannes has acknowledged that.

I admit I should have thought this thru better. I just wish people would read this much before buying. I mean on the add there where different links and names and the description where very clear. Only part about that chould have been better was title and the intro paragraph.

Regarding brand. No one will expect to get the same warranty on a Ledlenser as you would on a leatherman. Or if you like flur de cap and you buy tassenberg then you will not expect the same.

It will be much more confusing if pyrolights starts to sell normal lights also with different warranty.

Thank you petatodd. Yes this was a first attempted that went kind of pear shape. My heart was and is to prevent people from thinking there buying one thing and then getting some thing else. Pyro is build around the 4000K light concept. Where extremelight is low cost good value lights. Some people can afford to by the best the newest where others just want a light that works and allows them to train in winter. Pyrolights come with a years warranty and Extremelights with 90days. All these lights are good for what there use are. Not everyone can afford a +R1000 light.

Guys, I think Hannes has done his best to clarify and I would vote for him. One thing I don't quite understand is why delivery takes so long if Hannes said that all stock was brought by Groupon or something the like.

Hope my lights arrive while I still need them. Getting fatter by the minute, by not going cycling early in the morning with the excuse of being too dark.

I did see the disclaimer that delivery could take up to 4 weeks, but to have a disclaimer is one thing. To exercise the disclaimer, is something else. Please send the postman on my way.

Right... well I managed to get an Extreme light from a buddy of mine as a temporary loan unit until I can afford a light of my own. Busy charging it as we speak now and hopefully going to check it out this evening or over the weekend. Will post some pictures up

Included with the lights I received 2x headstraps that was not 'part' of the deal.

Charge time! :nuke:

Well, my Pyro 2000 (via Groupon) arrived via courier this afternoon. Hannes did indicate to me (in his prompt responses to my PM's querying anticipated delivery dates) that Groupon only paid for and collected the stock last week, so its arrival today is pretty good in my opinion.

A lot has been said about the different LED versions of the various Magicshine lamps offered mostly by the two local vendors on the Hub. Based on how bright this unit is in my un-scientific backyard test earlier which involved waving it about clicking through the 5 power settings while illuminating the far wall and neighbours house (and how my head is still spinning from foolishly looking at the lamp while it turned on), my guess is that most of us would be very happy with either of the 4000K or 6000K temp options. The fact that both vendors appear to go out of their way to communicate and resolve issues with customers, says to me that you'll be happy whichever route you've chosen to go.

Regarding Groupon and their recommended retail prices, I never believe any company's RRP as they are always inflated in my opinion, allowing them room to manouver in their discounting. You just need to consider what values are put to prizes in the many competitions we see advertised regularly in the media e.g. "win this tube of lip gloss worth R5000". I always do price research on any product I'm considering purchasing, as I did with this Groupon deal and would if I was buying a TV or washing machine. I thought the differences between the Pyro and Extreme lights offered were pretty clear in the Groupon offer despite the heading refering only to Pyro and I also thought the R1500 price for the Pyro 2000 model was R500 less than current available pricing (not RRP) and still think it was a good deal. Nice work by Magicshine (hubname) for matching this and ensuring more riders were able to enjoy this keen pricing.

My only dissapointment is that my Moonshine HID light which I have used for a few years and even in some mtb night races, and used to think was brilliant, it now just lame in comparison to the new LED technology. Lighting and battery technology have come a long way since those days of crappy torches with halogen lamps and penlight batteries! One of the many positives of this is that the more of these new generation lights there are in use, the safer it makes us as we become much more visible on the road in the morning/evening.

Edit: Performance update

Used the Pyro 2000 early Wednesday morning for a dark road ride (Morningside to Umhlanga & back via back roads, some of which are very dark). I specifically had both the Moonshine HID and Pyro 2000 on my bike at the same time to really compare. No contest. The Pyro 2000 lights up the road like nothing I've ever seen and is much more than necessary for road riding. Based on this, I would say the smaller/cheaper/lighter units will suit those who stay on the road, especially those models which have a flash mode which is great for once it is light to increase visibility. Can't wait to take it offroad.

Strangely enough after canceling my order for the Extreme Light and receiving my refund, today I received a call from Groupon confirming my delivery address for my Pyro light! Haha they still not getting it right so will let you guys know what actually arrives tomorrow!

Also received mine yesterday. Pyro, non Pyro, makes no difference to me. The light is seriously bright. Very impressed with the purchase so far.

Gee wiz talking about amazing feedback. I knew that the lights where gr8 value for money that is why I sourced them. I am being overwhelmed with the amount of emails and feedback that I am getting from the users. This is relay making my day. :D

What a lessen i learned from this. Thanks everyone for the support during the last few weeks. I actually thought that this self-induced-fiasco was going to mean the end for me and my lights. looks like I was being to hard on my self

You should post a review of the light as a minimum then! The rest of us paid for them and are happy with our purchase!

True, but I was also loaned a Extreme Light from a mate of mine and noticed a few differences. Firstly, the silver part of the light itself was red on my mates one and finally the battery was smaller than my mates one. Everything else was identical including the actual box, strange?

The two lights aren't the same. The one sold via groupon aka 1200 are brighter and have a 8.4V battery where the other one ,the red 1000, uses the same configuration as the Ryder 4.2V battery pack it is a small amount light less but runs longer. You also get a tail light with the Red one and a rubberized battery pack.

edit: added "less" to make a more clear
