Hi guys, thinking of changing my gear setup on my race bike to 26/40 of even 26/39, however I currently run shimano xt crankset M770, will the 10 speed chainrings fit? however I do not see shimano 40/39 chainrings at cwc or buycycling, will sram 39/40 fit my crankset?

thanks for the input.

sram new rings will not fit and shinano outer chain ring normally 42 or 44

but you can go 26 and 36 those will fit and be available. is it for 29er or 26? will work either way 26,36 no outer chain ring will allow you to run any gear or cross chain , much better chain line.

9 speed rings should run fine with a 10 speed chain

This is for 26er, wont i run out of gears on a 36T to quick?

where can i buy 36T?

im sticking with 11-32 cassette as i normally ride all climbs 32/32. just those longer ones can get tricky sometimes.

Reason why im asking is, my new Merida frame dont like the 3x9 setup, chain is either not going down inside ring or going up outside ring, and if i can save some weight, I really dont mind.

I see the XT 2x10 as the option of 38/26 and 40/28, wonder if these chainrings will be available in SA somewhere?

hi Anton

your lbs can contact shimano and find out about 40, 28 for you, but 40 tooth on 32 inner mount might touch your frame? also shimano new 2x10/9 crank positions the 2 chain rings between the 3x9 spacing to adjust the chainline,.... but may just be bad front derailure setting or too much cable tensions too.

jade at shimano could advise you i'm sure

would have to see it to tell you exactly whats wrong.

antonj, why you so deadset on 39/40 for your big chainring. As long as you get your 26, you'll be covered for the climbs. Why don't you go for a 42 or 44 big ring then to cover you on the fast stuff?

or get a square taper 175mm road triple 30 42 52 remove 52 it will fit and line up the 2 rings between your current triple setup and you can safely cross chain with a slightly loner chain fsa vero on chain reaction for 390 + bb and a fer spacers and away you go same as 30 42 new xtr double for under a grand but a bit heavier. also an option or campy record 30 42 52 if solomons still have .... unconventonal but works really well. just another option aslo will work 2x10 no new crank needed

I got a tripple crankset (3x9), running a 44/42 will mean it will be outer and that means the middle i will have ZERO. not ideal.

Oh I see... Ja, that could be problematic.
