ibruegge Posted June 12, 2012 Share Hi there, following the topic on "Who rides with their wives / girlfriends..." - I am a bit lost, as my wife is now more serious than ever and wants to upgrade to a full suspension, but to put it in a nutshell, she is short. At 1.53m, we don't seem to have any luck finding any XS bikes and the dealerships tell us that that is the only option that would work for her. Size S bikes seem to start for people from 1.60m upwards (at least according to most of the LBS). Even woman specific bikes - nothing available in XS, have tried the likes of CWC, Lab, Olympic etc... Are there any short riders here, what size bikes do you ride? Where did you find your bikes... Is this maybe a sign? :-)
slowpoke Posted June 12, 2012 Share At 1.52m I sympathise. People often harp on at me that I should get a full suspension bike. Your wife has two choices... Stick to the correct size bike or get the lightest too-big full suspension (the lightness will make it a little bit easier to handle). Personally I'm sticking with my hard tail mongoose meteore. Anine Posted June 12, 2012 Share the woman's specific bikes tend to run smaller, so maybe she would be able to get away with a small frame. I'm 1.65 and ride a small 'unisex' HT which is just right for me. why not import a frame from CRC?

ibruegge Posted June 12, 2012 Share thanks for the replies! Had a look at the Giants - no CPT LBS could get their hands on them. Anyone know the importer? I do like the idea of importing a frame, but then I am not exactly a talent when it comes to building up a bike for her from scratch....
cycle&sport Posted June 12, 2012 Share FUJI do a 13.5" ladies DUAL suspension bike but unfortunately the FUJI importers dont bring that specific model into South Africa I could make enquires with the importer (we stock FUJI) and see if they are prepared to bring you a 1 off bike in with there next shipment and at what price. slowpoke Posted June 12, 2012 Share Many "women specific" bikes are more entry-level type frames painted in "pretty" colours, and tend to be a bit heavy so do be careful if you go that route.
GLuvsMtb Posted June 12, 2012 Share http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-za/bikes/model/anthem.x.w/8352/53464/ Giant has a ladies specific XS model in the Anthem range. I'd get her this one. slowpoke
Anine Posted June 12, 2012 Share well, you can always discuss with your LBS about helping you build up your imported frame?
Robodog Posted June 12, 2012 Share A friendly shop should be able to check with their agents for any stock of x-small frames. Check which shops stock Giant and take it from there.
