Not quite a review, yet, but thought I'd extend my thanks to ASG for my new Rudy Project Sterling helmet that I got for the bargain price of R1020 including shipping! Also paid yesterday at lunch time via internet banking at it arrived about an hour ago in Durban. Brilliant service.

To sweeten the deal they threw in a T-Shirt which I assumed would be a crappy one but it is really stunning. I haven't taken a photo of the T-shirt as I am wearing it but it is black with a real cool dragon design on the back.

I was a little concerned with the size at first as I requested a S/M even though my head measures 58cm, which is right on the cusp of the two sizes, and when I first put it on there was not much space to manoeuvre. A bit of strap adjusting and it soon felt great. I much prefer a smaller helmet to one where my head rattles around inside.

I have to admit that the buckles on the side are a little weird and unless you get them posititioned just right they dig into you due to their raised shape. Not really the ideal shape to take the contour of your face but get it positioned just under your ear and it feels ok.

The helmet came with the bug net fitted and a spare set of pads. I don't really see the need for the bug net myself but I'll probably keep it in for a while and see how it goes. I want as much air as possible so I'll see if it stops the airflow at all.

I'll give more feedback once I've ridden but will admit upfront that my expertise when it comes to helmets is rather limited so I'll probably love it :) I'll be sure to give the helmet a test over the weekend but first impressions are good.

I have a Sterling in Pink. Talk about visibility! Seen from outer space...

Only thing I noticed about the Sterling over the Giro Atmos I also use it that it does seem to be quite a bit warmer on my head. As I got it in May I'm not sure how this is going to be in summer when ride temp is hot.

I hope this is not the case as this was the exact reason for me getting a new helmet. Are you using it with the bug net?

No bug net. It was just the initial feeling of extra heat but my winter riding has been good, a few hours on Sunday in the rain was ok. I think it's just that it sits differently, and maybe my hair is a bit long. Summer will tell.

The only issue I have with mine is the overly pointy shape of the visor - kind of defeats the objective of having a visor in the first place. Other than that - very happy with the helmet.

How did you guys mount your visor on the Sterling? The instructions are far from clear and I put it on via trial and error but am not certain it is correct. There are pictures of how mine is done below. The part that concerns me is circled on the right. If you push on the front of the visor it digs into the "foam" and this can happen when putting the helmet down as the visor sticks out.

the visor fits tight and looks right but I am just wondering if others did it differently:

Just as an aside, other threads, when I moan about the quality of many cellphone photos, I have been told to share some taken with my Nokia N8. All photos here and elsewhere are taken with this phone.

This is correct, mine is done like that

Like you say the instruction wasnt all that clear and its not exactly easy to get on either

These helmets are awesome, take the bug net out if you want your head to stay a bit cooler

Just heading out for a long ride now in Durban "winter" 25 degree weather and was wondering whether to leave the bug net in. Heading out the door so I might this time and see how it goes.
