hi guys i was wondering if it is possible( ok wait i know it is) or rather advisable not to use a rear shock that is bigger than the space between the bolts?

in other words can i not use a 200mm shock on a 190mm shock frame?

surely if the shock is fitted in a compressed state with no air in it and the air is added once the bolts are fitted it will only extend a s far as the frame will allow?

yes it may require some fine tuning with regards to the air pressure as it will now be running a lot higher due to the compression but is that not the same as say a fat person getting on the bike and not adjusting the pressure to suite?

Gonna change your BB height & head angle.Suspension might knock BB or seatube.

Been wanting to put a coil shock on my trance as am sick of air shocks.

Read online that people have done it,(trance size)7.25 x 1.75 & put a 7.5 x 2 dhx 4.

I will try it one day

Btw most guys overseas send thier socks/forks for a PUSH factory tune,(soft/med/high)to your needs and shim internally ,that also makes a diff :)

What coil shock would you want to put on your trance? Had an almost brand new Fox RP23 that leaked oil almost from start & ended up in suck down after a few months of use (think like 3-4 or maybe was like 5 months, but still IMO way too soon)

I'd love to raise the BB just a little too. Been thinking of going 140-150mm dual position RockShox Revelation with a slightly longer shock in the back.

It is possible to open the air sleeve and put a rubber bumper onto the damper body. This effectively shortens the shock with no ill effect at all. In fact, many shocks come with such a bumper that can be removed to make it longer.

@2Nuts, no it makes no difference how hard or soft your compression damping is. The length will be the lengh. So "tuning" the shock has no effect on its length.

I found that the only time you cannot do this is if the bike was designed for a shock with a particular eye shape and putting another shock on there with a thicker eye, it hits the frame. Giants come to mind. If they have a X-Fusion on there, a Fox doesn't fit. Maybe it is vice versa, I didn't take my Ginko Biloba this week.

Yo JB was'nt meaning the PUSH tune had anything to do with length, thats why i put in a seperate post.Just , that they tune for specific models IE;trance-trekx9 or w.e. & according to your suspension vvp, maestro etc .Same rp23 shock or w.e. will be tuned diff depending on what bike its on.So can both have same shock but will be setup diff according to model & weight/height.
