I'm battling to get sufficient time on the road and realise I need a basic IDT to try to make up for this. I'm no racer and am really looking to build some fitness, and to develop some power and stamina for hills, where I'm really weak Dead

Tacx would seem to be a good bet - what views on the brand, and the difference between the T1435 Sirius (2kg flywheel & supposedly quieter) and T1810 Speedmatic (1kg flywheel)?

Also, a few people have told me that I needn't invest in a special trainer tyre at first (I run Gatorskins).

Looking forward to your views..

Gatorskins should be fine I used them, just make sure not to make sure not to tighten the freewheel to much. But I would use a strong rear wheel like a 36 spoke. Apparently they have been known to buckle rear wheels.

I use the Continental IDT tyre and find that A) it doesn't wear as quick or square as a road tyre and B) it is a LOT quieter than a road tyre on the IDT. racman2008-01-13 08:12:36

I use my older slightly worn out Grand Pix's Ultra Sports. I wouldn't use the same Gatorskin that you ride with on the road though. I went and bought myself a second hand rear wheel and just swap out the wheel whenever i use the IDT.

As for IDT, do yourself a favour and try out the Fluid 2. It might look expensive at first glance but believe me its well worth it. Smooth and very quiet. The service backup is first class as well.
