No no. The std ones. The vented ones are k@k heavy. And k@@@@@k expensive. The only shop I saw them in had them for 87 euro each.

I went in to a shop and they had the red ones. Asked the chiki to put them aside for me. Half an hour later they had sold them. So I had to settle for the black ones. They still pretty damn cool tho.

I have to say every hope product I've had the pleasure of owning was of the highest standard. Real quality. pretty much the opposite of Crank Bro's

Hope products are always a win! Only problem I've had with my floating rotors is that aligning them can be tricky because the rivits connecting the inner to the outter sometimes catch on the brake piston. There is very little room for error when lining it up. But that is with Hayes Stroker Trails. With Hope barkes they probably work a lot better.

I've got the same problem, also with guess what... Avid Elixer's. I've tried changing brake pads, was forced to change the rotor (bent the old one too badly) and still have the same problem. It however seems to get worse when they are warm.

I got the Avid Elixer CR and learned to live with that constant noice when braking. What I dont understand, I spoke to a few people that got exacly the same brakes and they are happy as can be.

I have the Avid Juicy 3's and have also had tons of problems with them squealing. Tried cleaning up the surface of the pads and rotors but no real luck. ALso been battling to get my rear brake to work properly.....seems like one of the pistons doesnt work properly. Had it in and out of my LBS numerous times trying to get it right and everytime I get the bike back the problem is exacltly the same.

Time for some hope brakes I think....now which ones should I get???

Ok I think it has to be the M4s.....I have a Specialized XC.....will the M4s fit?

And can I get the 203mm rotors?

Thanks

(any advice appreciated)

What sort of riding are you doing?

I ask because i would say that unless you're doing AM, FR, or DH type riding, the M4's are an overkill.

I would recommend the X2's as the best option for a specialized xc. As for rotors, 180mm front, 160mm rear. 203/180 combo at a stretch.

Unless of course you weigh like 150kg. Then you need V2's with vented rotors

I mainly do cross country riding....probably nothing to warrant getting M4's.....I just got carried away when I saw them, and they weren't a whole lot more on CRC.

I weigh about 70kgs, so I'll probably be fine with 180/160 rotors.

XC... 70kgs... M4's will send your fillings flying out the front if your mouth

you're right, price wise there's not much in it, and the 4 pot pistons look killer, but also being for xc purposes your probably want a light option (the Tech X2, or maybe even Race X2... I prefer the feel if the tech though).

As an indication here's what i run (and I'm 1.87m weighing in at just under 90kg)

Dirt jump bike. Formula oro puro. 180/160

All Mountain bike. Avid Juicy 7's with goodridge house upgrade. 203/180

DH bike 1. Hayes Stroker Trail. 203/203

DH bike 2. Avid Code. 203/203.

Out of all those the the formulas and Hayes are temperamental so don't always work 100% but when they do their stopping power is more than adequate.

The codes and juicies (with hose upgrade) are more brake than most can handle

HAHAHA....the 4 pot pistons are what edged it for me initially.

Cool, I'll look at getting the Tech x2's (braided)...now just gotta twiddle my thumbs for 4 weeks until I get back to SA so I can order them!

Also...one more question (which may be a silly one but I jsut want to check before I order the wrong thing)....

Will these rotors work with the Tech x2's?:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=80527

The front rotors are listed as 183mm....will these still work.

I'm also alittle worried because CWC's description reads "Suitable for the Mono Mini and Mono M4 brakes",

I've tried looking at other rotors on CWC but cant find the ones meant for the x2'S??

I had ridden the CR's for over a year and never had a problem either, why not try a different rotor maybe?

dump the avid rotors

get shimano Xt ones

Agree, got the 2012 XT Ice-Tech brakes with 180/160 rotors. They scare the bajeebers out of me to be honest (I weigh 58kg, so they might be a slight overkill!) Nearly went over my bars a few times after slamming them on to avoid them "blind" car drivers...

Yup, those will work perfecty fine with X2's. I have the Hope Saw floating rotors (in 203) on my DH bikes, and that's not even with Hope brakes.

as long as you're using the correct adapter they'll be fine. Also don't stress if your adapter is 180mm and not 183mm. Most adapters require a few washers for tweaking the optimal position. the 1.5mm extra on the radius is easily sorted out by some washers.

The only Hope rotors that are brake model dependant are the V2 venteds
