I've recently bought a new bike which means once again, I need a new saddle. The bikes always come with a 143cm and I need a 155cm. I also need to change the saddle on my road bike as its also a 143. I can survive something like the Argus with my current saddle, but would not like to attempt the Double Century on a saddle that is not the right size.

Now comes the question of which saddle and I'm hoping for some advice on this.

I'm not a weight weenie so don't want the lighest racing saddle. I also don't want a big squishy saddle. Something in between racing and casual. I don't want to buy online so preferably someone I can go look at in Cape Town. I don't put a price on comfort so any suggestions welcome.

Please let me know what you girls (or guys whose better halves also rides) think, especially the ones like me with the wider hips / butt (that doesn't mean fat BTW). I need both a mtb and road saddle.

Thanks Slick. Any idea where one can get them in Cape Town?

I honestly don't know the bike shops in CT very well. Sorry.

The ones I have seen in bikeshops here in Joburg were just under R2k for that saddle - which is why I ordered a couple from CRC from the link that I posted.

My other half uses this and is very happy even on long days in the saddle.

I will second this. Bought one from CRC for my wife and she loves it. Rode her bike the other day and was surprised how comfortable it is. You can get one from CWCycles for a bit more.

Hi Ratty. My wife got an excellent ladies-specific Specialized saddle from Cycles Direct. Get Michael to help you select which one after they've measured your sit-bones on the assometer. You're welcome to take her bike for a spin if you want to try out her saddle. Think its an Ariel Comp 155 cm.

specialised avatar 155cm, not ladies spesific but works great

I'm moving away from the Specialized saddles. Nothing wrong with the saddles, they just aren't the right shape for me (too high on the edges).

I've been through the range of Specialized and have finally conceded that they just don't work for me. The latest Jett is rather nice and matches my bike but is the wrong size and I'm not sure the bigger size would solve the problem. I think after many years of trying, its time to give another brand a go.

Cycles Direct did offer to order me any saddle I want, I was just hoping to see one before ordering.

Thanks for informing us of a local supplier. ;)

I still think CRC will end up much cheaper at just over R900 including shipping and duty.

www.buycycle.co.za is another local seller. They have them on special for R1336. Still way more than CRC.

Consensus seems to be the Diva. Worst case, if I hate it then I can just sell it on the hub as "almost new", lol. Gives me an excuse to get the pedals I need, CRC have a special :-)

Thanks everyone!

Yep it is cheaper @ CRC than what i paid for it two months ago. I think CWC had it on one of their Bday sale for about R800 though.
