29 HT VS Dual Sus

Heel Drop

Recommended Posts

I saw an article ( Bicycling) where they tested 10 Dual sus bikes and the Spec Epic Comp and PYGA ONE TEN 29 came out at the top

with the Scott sparck 29 elite and Giant anthem X also rated very good.

try them for youself! I test rode a Spec Epic and did not like the feeling at all. Yes it is a fast bike but it is not comfortable at all (for me) when it comes to the rough stuff

Guest Travis.

Well, here's my experience:

Bike: GT Sensor 9er Pro, Full Suspension, 120mm front, 100mm rear.

Weight - Downside - 14.2kg

Fun factor - A lot.

Handling - not bad at all (lol)

Would i trade it for a 26er? never

Would i trade it for a HT? never

Would I trade it for another 29er, FS, with shorter travel? Probably.

Karma you damn sellout! :whistling:

I wouldn't trade mine for a shorter travel. Once you point it downhill and you struggle to wipe the smile off your face, you'll remember why the longer travel is such a joy!

agreed. It took me about 2 or 3 rides on my 29er to get used to the different geomitry (when I went from 26").

I was very glad i did the 70k race on a giant anthem 29er on saterday .My suspension setup was soft and i still hurt after 2 h.I have a HT 29er too ,but even that can become painful.I felt sorry for the guys, girls on 26 HT on saterday .DS for sure , If you are tall or heavy then go for the bigger wheels .As always it is the legs that count and not the brand .I am very happy with the anthem .12kg for a xl is not bad

how much is the giant anthem DS?

I would not recommend the Anthem 29er for sizes smaller than large because of the long chainstays. But the Anthem 29er in size large or bigger is a great bike, fast, good handling and very comfortable. I just think shorter chainstays will be better. And remember: if 29er then thru-axle.

If you want comfort and st and downhill speed, go 29er dually, if you want to be a few seconds faster on climbs, go 29er hardtail.

Forgive my ignorance (Roadie), what is a thru-axle?

I decided the same thing for my next bike. It seems with those longer chainstays it's very difficult to get the front wheel up and play a bit. You get massive traction on loose climbs and a stable ride with the Anthem but I would look at something a bit shorter. The Epic 29 and the Spark 29 both have ~448mm chainstays so that might be the number for a dual. The rocky mountain Element is 445mm compared to the Anthem's 462mm.

I swopped bikes last weekend on our ride with a mate riding a 29er HT (i'm on a FS). I loved it! The bike feels racey, fast and super responsive! Granted, i wont do sani on it, but for short races, even marathons that are mainly on dirt roads like the last trailseeker, it is perfect!

So, my choice... Definitely both!

see I am still in two minds not sure if I shoudl harden up and get a hardtail ( lighter) and less mainenance and cheaper or get a heavier DS with more parts that can break

decisions decisions wil haev to them to see.

Will probably do stage races twice a year and the normal 50-70 with more tehcnical most of the year any way
