Hi Guys

I will be in the market for a 29er Hardtail and am interested in your comments.

I has an order in for a Pyga hardtail but wasnt able to get one due to quality issues but ultimately i would like to replace the fromes from the following bikes with the Pyga, except for the cannandale maybe.

1 - Silverback Vida 1 2012 (has the correct hubs to be able to adjust to pyga syntace rear system

2 - Scott 940 2013 (nice bike but hubs cant be adjusted for Pyga)

3 - Cannondale flash 1 aluminium (just keep as is and not get the Pyga)

What do you guys think?

i wouldn't really settle for the 29er yet as the new fab of the 27.5 is really pushing to shove the competition and the bike will climb easyer than a 29er and goes over terrian quicker than 26er and i will say rather invest in the momsen sl650 or scott scale 10 that are compatible to the wheel sizes

reply if you would like enquires

I am not so 100% for the donor bike idea. If you want to build a bike, sure: build it.

Why don't I like the donor bike idea?

  1. You already paid for the frame on the donor bike.
  2. The donor and the Pyga might not have the same size seatpost.
  3. You may end up with a new stem.
  4. You may not like the saddle.
  5. You will change the grips.
  6. What about the BB? a BB30? or a press fit GXP? or a screw in Hollowtec?
  7. Will the front derrailleur fit?
  8. Will you end up selling them darn Elixers in favour of XT's?
  9. And then there are the wheels. Are you going to settle for white rims? Are you light enough for Crests? As you have noted, there are a few axle options at he back as well.
  10. Will you never think of "upgrading" the seatpost or handle bar to a fancy carbon set up?

So for me there are two options. Build it from scratch(lots of good deals on groupsets, forks and wheels) in the classifieds.

The easiest on your pocket will be to buy and ride a store bought bike.

All valid points. Points you would ask yourself if you were building from scratch too. Within the three options given I would still go the donor route. But, I agree, if a scratch build is an option then get the frame and buy the parts you want bit by bit.

I understood that the PYGA frame wasn't immediately available to udxcob and they wanted to ride something until the PYGA frame was available...
