Anine Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Just how bad are indoor trainers for your tyres and/or bike?I own a HT MTB with either maxxis monorails or specialized fatboy slicks. both tubed. the trainer is a standard entry level magnetic trainer, nothing fancy

Thomo Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Trainers shouldn't be an issue for any bike.I wouldn't recommend nobbly tyres though ... noise and traction.Use the slicks (which may not last very long) or get a dedicated trainer tyre.

Robrider Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Yeah, I did one session on knobblies and it took a significant amount of the tread off, as well as being noisy as hell. I bought the cheapest slicks I could find, and its been all good for nearly 2 years.

I ended up buying a cheap wheelset for R600.......... Thats your best bet.

Thats your best bet.I basically ended up doing the same, got a wheelset off the Hub (v-brake) for about R400, with a SRAM cassette included....

Zatek Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) If you use a indoor training I recommend the trainer tyre as well. Low noise and high milage compare to standard road tyres (my road tyres started to melt on the rollers after 50km).
