I saw a group of approx 30 riders heading out from Edgemead on Saturday morning at 7:00am.

Does anyone know who these guys are, where they start from and if 'outies' can join them.

I would love to train with these guys as I notice they all stopped at the red traffic light.

City Cycling Club.

Ride every Saturday at 0700 from Edgemead library, and Sundays from BP Garage in Edgemead.

Several non-members ride with them, like myself. They usually do two to three different distances to cater for the not so fit, like me!!

Yes they are fussy about cycling's image in the area, traffic rules must be obeyed.

Joevan is correct.

We ride every Saturday of the year, 7.00am from in front of the Edgemead Community Hall and we cater for all standards of cyclists. You don't have to be a member to ride with the our group. Most of the cyclists are residents from the surrounding suburbs and the last thing we need is for someone to write to the local newspapers complaining of a bunch of cyclist barrelling through the suburbs ignoring traffic lights. we want to be a good example to other road users and especially the youngsters who we hope to attract to our club. We are also in the process of starting a novice training group as well as a week day (8.30am) riding group for retired people and housewives.

What sort of distances do you do? Is it flat or hilly riding...?

I stay in Goodwood & would like to ride with you guys now & again but not as a member...

Robotech , you are more than welcome to ride with us.

as an e.g. on Saturday we rode the following routes:

Short Route will ride to the top of Malanshoogte via Contermanskloof (approx distance 34 kms)

Medium Route will ride over Tiekiedraai and return via Adderley and Malanshoogte (1.8km of gravel road would need to be negotiated so pump up those tyres)(approx distance 54 kms)

Long Route will ride the same roads as the Medium but will return via van Schoorsdrift and the N7 (apprx distance 72 kms)

as a rule we ride as a group and regroup at important junctions and the top of hills , just to make sure that everyone is alright. we all stop for punctures.

other routes include down to Melkbos / Duynefontein / Atlantis (we take the wind S'easter into account). On a Sunday we ride out to Landduno / Chappies or to Stellenbosch via Polka.

This post is quite old but I'm wondering if this group is still operational... I might be moving to Edgmead soon coming from the Southern Suburbs which seems to have a ton of great cycling routes by comparison.
