  1. Just waiting for batteries to arrive then will be fitting E-Assist. Need to be able to do more than the current 10Km and need help up hills!
  2. Sandals with cleats. Due to a MTB accident 3yrs ago that left me with a spina\l cord injury now ride a 3 wheel recumbent trike. Need to clip my feet in but cannot get my feet into shoes. https://za.ciclimattio.com/s/shimano/sd500-shoe-2019/?id=20202&m=31226&d=108338.
  3. Forget to add, you are only allowed two "GIFTS" per year.
  4. I brought in some Shimano sandals from the UK last year. Invoice must be clearly marked GIFT, and value must not exceed R1500.00. You are not charged VAT or import duty, They still tried to charge me VAT and duties and I had to phone the shipping agent and tell them to read the invoice properly!!
  5. Hope it works for you, rode my bike for 5yrs with no cable rattle and it was a cheap solution.
  6. Go to any motorcycle dealer or scooter spares dealer, they should have a range of mirrors, including ones that clamp on the bars and ones that fit in the end of the bars. Rearview is excellent, I use them on my Tadpole trike.
  7. Well the Back a buddy campaign closes 31 August, fell short of what I needed, but heartfelt thanks to those who did assist. Every bit was helpful. Now I have to get used to three wheels instead of two, but I can finally get out on the road again!!
  8. Doesn't seem to be any local agents? Trying to avoid imports, tax makes it too expensive. May have to get a friend in UK to buy and send as a gift. If under R1400.00 no tax or VAT
  9. Anybody know if there is anywhere in SA where SPD Cycling sandals are available. Due to a permanent injury, have started cycling a recumbent trike, but need to clip in for safety. Struggle to get feet into cycling shoes or any shoe for that matter. These would be perfect!

  11. This is what I have on order
  12. Thanks Desi. Won't be able to do single track, but jeep track is a possibility. From my experience with a test ride, first target will be just to get around the block! Very weak. Derick will be my wing man once I can do a bit of distance.
  13. Thank you Arno, much appreciated.
  14. An update on my progress. Up to November 2018, I was making slow but steady progress, could walk short distances, and generally take care of myself, even drive my car (AT). Then in November started going backwards had several falls and fractured left hip. After two weeks in hospital and several specialists, was told that nothing could be done to improve my status. But I will not accept this, I am going to carry on exercising and carry on with therapy which has already cost me over R30k over the last year which medical aid will not cover. Twice a week when we drive along Marine Drive to the therapists I see the cyclists on the cycle path and cry inside. But the possibility of riding on two wheels again is remote So I started investigating 3-wheel recumbents and found a local supplier in Cape Town. I am trying to raise R40k to purchase one of these so that I can enjoy the cycle track instead of just watching it! https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/joe-van-gent
  15. Thanks. Now I need to figure out if there is a way to avoid the 15% duty if I import a recumbant trike from Taiwan which is shipped in one carton with complete parts since it is for use by a disabled person
  16. Just received this article from EBay regards imports new regs https://www.gov.za/services/import/individual-or-personal-goods Do you now need a permit to import tyres??
  17. The outer sleeve runs right through you just replace the inner as described by Joss
  18. https://www.facebook.com/groups/339245799519995/?ref=bookmarks This is the local group group to join!!
  19. Was also looking at this, with shipping comes to about R28k. can any Hubbers experienced in importing bikes and bike parts advise me what extra costs i.e. Import duties, Vat etc. will still be levied. The trike is shipped disassembled. https://www.ubuy.za.com/search/index/view/product/B07CKJHCCN/s/Performer-JC70-Recumbent-Trike-27S--FRP-seat/store/store/kk/dp
  20. 14 months ago, I had an OTB on my MTB and suffered a spinal cord injury, incomplete Tetraplegia. Have limited use of hands, but can walk short distances, and as part of the daily exercises I do, I have mounted my old hardtail on an IDT and manage a few minutes pedaling on this every day. But I miss being out on the road! No way I could do this on my road or MTB if this is ever going too be possible. So I have been considering Recumbants like the attached photo. Does anybody know of any local suppliers, preferably in Cape town area? Similar to link below. https://www.ubuy.za.com/search/index/view/product/B071CLQ5PP/s/Performer-JC26X-Recumbent-Trike-27S-FRP/store/store/kk/dp
  21. And some not so good news! https://www.msn.com/en-za/money/personalfinance/listen-big-online-shopper-sars-has-its-eyes-on-you-and-your-imports/ar-BBNhGoq?ocid=spartandhp
  22. I just want to thank all who organized and supported the Ride for Joe, yes that is me. I am humbled by the support that I have had since my fall last September, but seeing all the cyclists at the event, some old friends and some new, made me realise why I love cycling. It's still going to be long road before I can get back on the bike again, but you are all the motivation I need to keep working on recovery.
  23. Thanks for the location info, we rode down that road several months ago just to see what was happening in the area, and did not feel comfortable in the area. Too many bushes and too direct a line to the N7 and Dunoon. The road has been opened recently and land sales are advertised for a new development. Also large construction camp just before the Barrel Pub turnoff.
