The problem with that section is the way people enter it. It looks like the safest line is going around the big root and then gently crawling over the bridge and out the other side. People don't approach it right and they stay too rigid on the bike and also some stay seated. They freeze up the second the front wheel digs at the roots, push they arms out instead of pulling back on the bars and then the catapult fires.

Relax, relax, relax. Out of the saddle, weight back and approach as straight as possible. Keep the momentum going.

Um, i think i need a few more years experience before even attempting that one!

I'm sorry it looks hectic! and i have no idea how to approach it and which line is the best -- looks scary!

You make it sound SO easy.... not all of us have DH racing as a background for all the stuff on the trails.... EISH. You make it LOOK so easy. I am in agreement with WP!! When I am big. One day. Maybe.

That section isn't so bad, it looks much worse than it is. And if I can ride it, anyone can.

Maybe next time we must spend some time at the spots that people are wary of, to practice them? Its all about practice and confidence.

Thats a sensible solution, I wouldnt mind doing the root garden and the entry to the river single track several times.

That makes two of us. The one thing I did notice was that my weight was too far forward. But I did keep my arms and legs loose. Well will see what happens next time

good idea Myra.....it will take some convincing from all of you cheering me on, handsome guys without shirts doing little dances, etc (   ) to get me to ride through that!!! lol

Hey Saturday was my first time riding the roots with no one cheering me on and well hmmm, yeah kinda, maybe, possibly, ended in a tiny, no too major, possibly small disaster?

Well I got home and the first question posed to me was "do you go out to get hurt on purpose?"

That settles it then. Next spin at NF we will focus a lot more on skills training and less on distance and time in the saddle.

Will make it happen :D

That's what I've been saying all along: less district road and more single track. I'm even happy to ride the same "difficult" piece over and over and assist others in riding it over and over :D.

That's what I said! :P

"Staying balanced on the pedals and relaxing the limbs"

- there you have it folks... the secret to successfully handling any rough or downhill sections. The rougher it gets the more active you have to be on the bike.
