Last night while I was tooling up for my next project (a Giant XTC 29 based MonsterCross bike) I came across these:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=68419

At ~2,140g per set they aint light but at R1,319 PER PAIR they are superb value. It doesn't include 14% VAT and you'll have to add a few items to make up the free shipping limit but that is a fine price for a set of training/muck about wheel.

32 hole, eyeletted rims, cartridge bearings, 3 cross front and back 2.0mm spokes - I reckon these will make some fine work horse rims.

I'll paste a review once they're here and I've smashed them to pieces on the MonsterCross bike!

Here's the low down:

Pro-Lite Veleta 29" Wheelset

Quality, affordability and versatility. The Veleta wins on all counts. The slick and sexy disc-only rim is made with the same kind of production standards that you would expect to find in top end race wheels. This means that you will get consistently high quality wheels that are strong and trouble free. With the Veleta, you can add 100% hand-built quality to your wish list. Front hub options of either; standard QR or 15mm thru-axle. The rear hub comes set up for standard QR. I-Beam rim internals

Pro-Lite Veleta 29" Wheelset Specifications:

Rim Alloy -I.B.T .- Sleeved / Disc Brake/ Eyelets Reinforced

ETRTO 29": 21-622

Front Hub: 2 sealed bearings - 32 H - 15mm or QR

Agreed but the Giant MonsterCross bike was designed as a 80/20 bike - total cost under R10,000.

Also looked at the Easton EA70 but they only come in 12mm rear axle....

Havens were too much for the Monster
