XX 2x10 shifter with triple XT cranks - options?

Hi guys

I'm looking at getting Sram 2x10 XX shifters and rear deraileur, but currently have a 3x10 XT crank and SLX triple FD,

What are my options regarding this? Would the Sram front shifter work with my SLX FD? Would I need to change to a 2x10 crank up front? Would I need to change the FD to a 2x10 or could I adjust the 3x10?

Thanks

Thanks Covie. I have a 10 speed cluster at the back already, will be getting a new rear derailleur with the shifters.

Is it not possible to convert the triple crank to a double then?

Not as far as i know, the spacing is different between the crank blades and the bb and the first blade. But ive never tried it. Maybe ask Johan Borman if theres a way he should know about it.

As far as I know you can use the front derailleur you have now and also on the XT crankset, the smallest ring is bolted independently so it can be removed for 2x10 use.

I have x9 3x10 shifters with XT crankset + XT front mech. Front shifting is the same for SRAM and Shimano, back is different ratios.

What model no cranks you have?

Thanks Peewee1, will go check it out tonight!! Much appreciated!

Last question, if I remove the small ring, would I need to change my FD to a 2x10 or would the 3x10 work, I'd just need to adjust the lower and upper limits?

You should be able to get it to work. But I think the limits won't reach the middle ring - you have to tighten the cable while the mech is in line with the middle ring - not the most ideal way to do it but should work for now. Not sure of the implications of having the shifter cable constantly pulling but yes it will definitely work.

New mech will be around R300 so probably best to just get that.

i dont see this working at all cant see shimano making a crankset that you can convert to 2x10 when they have 2x10 cranksets in production, also dont see the front 3x10 mech work on a 2 x10 blade combo. I'd be highly surprised if you get this right.
